FRANKLY, IT’S UNFAIR TO PICK A WINNER BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES THAT ARE 14.000 KM OR 19 FLIGHT HOURS APART AND WHERE PEOPLE EITHER RIDE WAVES VS RIDING THE SNOW. IN THE END, IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHAT YOU VALUE MORE: -40 OR +40.

INTRODUCTION

We hope that this page will be enlightening for people that are doubting their current lifestyle and are seriously considering going to Aussie or Canada.

How ya going?

CHICKEN FRIED

Rightie! Down under in summer is record-breaking hot. Think roo on the barbie, bottle-o’s, surf beaches, ozone hole, and more beaches. Take it easy, don’t over exhaust yourself, you’ll be alright whatever happens. Locals remind you daily with a funny accent.

Sounds unreal right? Indeed, swim only in the middle and south of Australia. Given you don’t want to die within minutes by an almost invisible little stinger (depending on the species).

BOX JELLYFISH AND IRUKANDJI

Luckily for you mate, There’s vinegar where there are beaches, but still, be aware of the possible danger in stinger season. Even in the middle section of Australia, surfers wear suits to cover their whole body. Just so you know, those two funny names I mentioned in the heading are the most dangerous jellyfish. 2 minutes and you are gone.

This guy forgot to cover his whole body. Don’t be like him!

CROCWISE SURFING AND THE GREY BARRIER REEF

If you want to surf in the north because you have just bought your stinger suit, think twice! Salt crocodiles have a habit of eating wanderlusts near the shore. Talk to the locals for swimming holes, but again always be crocwise! When you go out with a company on the reef, they will provide you with the appropriate suits and they go out far in the ocean, where there should be no salties, just sharks. The best place to see the grey (see what I did there) reef is not Cairns, but the infinite times better Port Douglas.

Salties especially eat wanderlust influencers for brekkie!

COMMERCIAL HIPPY TOWN

So you’ve booked a flight to Brissy and are now ready for surfing! Shark attacks may occur, but they mostly happen on the Westcoast. Hang around Chris Hemsworth when you’re in Byron and you are golden.

Taking in a sunset in Byron after a hard day of surfing.

JOBS AND WONDERWALL HOSTELS

Concerning jobs, we’ll keep it short here. Buy car asap and go find work in a remote community. Everything will be paid for. Get a 5 digit number on your account easily and truly master the art of loneliness. Go to job desks if you’re too lazy to look for jobs online.

If you’re into a good night’s rest, better not book a night in a hostel in a big city. They’ll party like its 1969 and your neighbor will be learning Wonderwall on the acoustic. I guess it’s fun if you’re new to the guitar. During prime sleep time, It’s common for your roommates to sneak in their +1.

There is a wonderful app called Wikicamps, that gives you an enormous amount of information on where to camp or shower for free. If you’re in that sort of a thing.

ALL FUN AND JOKES, BUT SERIOUSLY WHY SHOULD I TRAVEL THE EAST COAST?

Whitehaven beach, likely the whitest beach you’ll ever see during your time on this earth.

A casual Swim with humpback whales in Hervey Bay. Get a better camera than we had!

  • The magical Cape Tribulation = where the reef meets the rainforest. The only place where Dinosaurs are still roaming.
  • Skydive above one of many dropzones that have a beach landing.
  • Fraser island might be bang for one’s buck if you’ve never driven on the sand before.
  • Feed Rockwalibis on Magnetic island.

WHAT ABOUT AYERS ROCK (ULURU)? IT’S ON EVERY POSTCARD!

Well, It’s a big rock in the very center of Australia.

We did have an amazing time driving around here. Ayers rock changes its colors during the day. Wonderful. Go there during sunrise and sunset. Be sure to check out the Olgas as well! Look for Camels in the area and be luckier than we were.

Mataranka and bitter springs are must do Hotsprings when you’re coming from or driving to Darwin.

The great ocean road is a stunning drive along magnificent beaches on the South coast. We’ve spotted wild koalas in the rainforest. Huh? a rainforest on the South coast?

DARWIN, CAIRNS, BRISBANE, MELBOURNE OR SYDNEY?

Tomato, tomato. But Youlia and I choose Melbourne by a long shot! This amazingly well-organized city is alive, beautiful and has incredible things to offer. If you’re into surfing, wine tasting (Chandon too), chocolate farms, cliff diving, markets, city life,…Melbourne area has it all! With 4 seasons a day, no day is the same. I guess living in a big city can be decompressing and fancy after all.

TELL ME AGAIN ABOUT THE WILDLIFE

Not everything wants to kill you. Walibis are cute! In fact, Kangaroos should be way more worried about us driving over them (dusk and dawn). Snakes are common, yes. It will still take you some time to spot one though. Same with spiders. Guys, check your toilet before sitting on it! Unfortunately, we have to mention Aussie’s mozzies. Use a local product instead of exposing yourself to poison all the time.

Let’s end with good news. There is a special location on the East coast where you can see wild dolphins and even feed them. Ask us about it!

SO…

We hope we’ve given you a sneak peek of this amazing country’s treasures. Check out Skyscanner for the cheapest flights!

Canadians think their winters are hard until they’ve witnessed summer in Aussie.”

It’s brutal really. To be honest we are still figuring out what country suits us best. They’re both awesome!

Cheers!
